The Power of Language

Which crime is worse, financial theft or verbal abuse? The Talmud teaches us that money can be reimbursed, but the hurt from words is irreparable. Regardless of the reason why, some are more emotionally vulnerable than others. Whether it be name calling, chiding, digging, public humiliation or speaking ill of someone behind their backs, the Torah – Old Testament, teaches us that verbal humiliation is the equivalent of “murder.”

Our words can pierce a person’s heart more sharply than any knife we can buy. Let us remember the pain we may cause with the power of our tongue.

My prayer for you today is that your heart and your mouth work in tandem to express kindness and healing rather than pain and suffering.
