Feelings and Actions

I think one’s feelings waste themselves in words;
they ought all to be distilled into actions which bring results.

Florence Nightingale

Telling me how you feel has one dimension to it, but showing me how you feel is multi-dimensional. A word can describe something well, but is devoid of the passion of an action.

When I talk to you about the anguish I feel when I see or hear about starving children, I know that you will feel badly about that human condition. That is very different than inviting you to join me in visiting a feeding program where we get to feed the children who are hungry, collecting food and making care packages for those families in need and making the time to deliver the food to those families in need and experiencing the majestic glory of their gratitude and how good you feel having acted on your feelings.

Please do not ever confuse the power of actions over words. I may use words to rationalize and excuse my inaction, but there are no words more powerful than acting on how we feel. This applies to everyday emotions in relationships, work, friendships, etc. Telling you how I feel is only half my healing. Showing you how I feel through a demonstrative act is the other half.

My prayer for you today is that you see that
FEELINGS + ACTIONS = Healing and Happiness
and that you will increase your actions to achieve a greater serenity with your emotions.
