Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.
Leonardo da Vinci
Complex, challenging, stimulating, brain teaser, difficult and sophisticated; words we use to compliment situations that may baffle us, crossword puzzles that can frustrate us to tears, mathematical formulas that give us Excedrin headaches or worse, philosophy that takes our own beliefs and has us thinking the opposite and the list goes on. Is this all bad, absolutely not! Is this always necessary, absolutely not!
I keep learning that simple is as simple does; remember Forrest Gump? If you saw the movie then like many of us, including me, we thought he was a pretty simple/stupid man. The longer we watched we found that his simple nature was a gift that drew others to him and which he had no comprehension of. He just kept everything simple; life is like a box of chocolates he would say. You never knew which one you were going to get and that was okay. Amazing!
I believe that this film was catalytic in commencing a more simple approach to the world inside me. I had no control over the world at large and the din it caused in my life, but I certainly could simplify and make easier what I could and that would make everything else easier. As I made things more simple in my life, I came to see God working in my life in ways I never thought God could or would. Once again, if I would only get out of the way and just do the next right thing, chances were starting to look as though I would get the next right result with greater frequency.
My prayer for you today is that you begin to simplify what you can, enjoy the joy that comes your way, inhale the extra breaths you can take and exhale the glory that is yours. However you define God in your life, God will be happy that you are slowing down to feel God’s gifts.
