Controlling Anger vs. Healing Anger

I do a great deal of counseling with many different people from assorted backgrounds, races and ethnicity. I subscribe to many journals, periodicals, e-newsletters, etc. and I have come to the realization that we are focusing our energy in the wrong direction when it concerns our anger.
 
I, along with you and all others, have always been told to control our anger. I, like you, have at times been very successful doing that and at others times I have been a dismal flop. I kept working at it for I was determined to get it right, once and for all. It then dawned on me; why would I want to learn to control something when I could heal it and be rid of it.
 
If I healed the cause of my anger, I would no longer feel anger under the same circumstances and would no longer have to control anything. I would heal and be free. Having said that, I wish to say that confronting and healing my anger has not been easy. It has been worth my effort to do what I needed to exhume the anger from the very dark recesses of my soul and exorcise them from my spirit. Events that used to cause my anger to flare, no longer cause a reaction from me as I do not feel anger. Does this mean I never feel anger? No it does not. I feel anger when I am angry, but I dispose of it quickly and without resentment. My anger no longer has power over me.
 
My prayer for you today is that you determine whether controlling or healing your anger is best for you.
