Staying in Today

One of the illusions of life is that the present hour is not the critical, decisive hour. Write it on your heart that every day is the best day of the year.
Ralph Waldo Emerson

How often are we so focused on where we are going that we miss the moment we are in and then wonder where the time has gone? How often have we reached the end of the day and instead of affirming all that we accomplished, focus on the things we did not complete? How tragic that I allow myself to affirm all that I am not rather than all that I am.
Today is an important day – the most important, as it is the only day we have. Yesterday is gone and tomorrow has not arrived. That problem we solve, decision we make, time we enjoy is what shapes our entire lives. The way we approach today is crucial for it is days like today that make up the quality of our lives.
An affirmation I have found helpful for staying in today is:
Today I will live through the next 24 hours and not try to tackle all of life’s problems at once.
My prayer for you today is that you embrace the day you are in and savor every second of it as it is not a dress rehearsal.
