Your Heart Vs Your Head

Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don’t matter and those who matter don’t mind.  Dr. Seuss

Theodor Seuss Geisel was an American writer and cartoonist most widely known for his children’s books written under the pen name Dr. Seuss.

Do you communicate responsibly within your spiritual/loving relationships? I strive for emotional intimacy in my deepest and most loving relationships. What does it take to get there? It takes a great deal of courage and emotional honesty for me. My emotional honesty and courage come from my heart, not my head. I have learned over time that it is safe for me to trust and be vulnerable with my intimate partner I want to have intimate communications with.

When I take a stab at intimate communications within my head, I often end up communicating defensively rather than openly, honestly and vulnerably. When I come from my heart, I may feel awkward, but it doesn’t matter because it was sincere, open, loving and accessible. Learning feeling and heart vocabulary takes time because the words can only come when I allow my defenses to come down and my heart to open up.

In my work with clients as a Rabbi and Sober Coach in South Florida, I strive to help people heal the trauma that has robbed them of their trust and safety with their own intimacy. Regardless of the cause; substance addiction, incest, rape, emotional and mental abuse; it does not matter. What matters is that I no longer could be intimate within me which made me incapable of being intimate with you. Until I healed mine I had no capacity to share with you. I am able to help people begin the healing process by creating a safe and trusting setting where they know they are loved and accepted unconditionally. Knowing that is their first step in trust and intimacy.

My prayer for you today is that you find the barriers inside you on your journey to intimate communications, allow them to abate and trust that your heart will know what to do.
