“When you see a thing clearly in your mind, your creative “success mechanism” within you takes over and does the job much better than you could do it by conscious effort or “willpower”. Maxwell Maltz – Surgeon and Founder of Psycho-Cybernetics
Willpower is a word that we frequently use with negative meanings, values and interpretations, when in fact; it is an amazingly positive word.
Think of the “will” “power” that you possess to accomplish something. Right now, it is your willpower that has you reading each word in this message. Forget the lack of willpower you have over a brownie, ice cream, a purse or new car and begin to zero in on the amount of willpower you have to accomplish whatever it is that you are seeking. There is nothing you cannot do if you take your willpower and put it to use in your life.
While active in my addictions, willpower was a term that I abused. I was self will run riot. My will was defiant, rebellious, hurtful, sinister and angry. In recovery, my willpower is aligned in a spiritual realm and is focused on healing, kindness, gratitude and fulfillment of my primary purpose – to get sober and help others achieve sobriety.
As an addiction counselor and Rabbi in recovery, I have myriad opportunities to assist people find their way to transform their “will power” from a hurtful negative into a God/Higher Powered positive action plan.
The greater your acceptance of your willpower, the greater your success will be and the greater your feelings of self worth will be and the greater you will feel about you. Everything will be greater when you commence seeing that your willpower is inside you waiting to burst out with joy and fulfillment. Stop keeping it hidden from yourself and let the rest of us enjoy it with you. Your willpower will give rise to another’s and another’s and before you know it, everyone that you know will be living their lives with their joyful willpower. That will be a WOW moment.
My prayer for you today is that you find your willpower, give life to it and make it work in your life with faith, hope and endless joy.
