Carpe Diem

carpe-diemYou are never too old to set another goal or to dream a new dream.
- C. S. Lewis

Clive Staples Lewis, commonly referred to as C. S. Lewis and known to his friends and family as Jack, was an Irish-born British novelist, academic, medievalist, literary critic, essayist, lay theologian and Christian apologist. He is also known for his fiction The Chronicles of Narnia and The Space Trilogy.

As an active addict I had lost the capacity to set goals or have dreams. I had fantasies that all would be well in some magical manner. As a Sober Rabbi, Coach and Counselor today, I have dreams and set goals and achieve them which reaffirms my faith to keep doing whatever got me to where I am.

What a powerful message for all of us to adopt and adhere to every day we are blessed with. I cannot imagine reaching a point in my life where I have no more dreams. What would I do? I constantly am dreaming about things to do, projects to start, people to serve, places to visit, etc. I may never achieve a fraction of them, but I never stop having them and working toward them.

My dreams and goals certainly change as I age and will continue to change as I age even more, but I continue to see what is in front of me rather than dwell on what I have left behind. I always have the sadness and good memories, but no longer dwell on the “baggage.”

My prayer for you today is that you will find a new dream or goal daily, weekly, monthly or annually and persevere to take it from dream to reality.
