Finding Your Spirit

“Your task is not to seek for love, but merely to seek and find all the barriers within yourself that you have built against it.” – A Course in Miracles

I was recently appointed the Spiritual Advisor to a Substance Abuse Rehab in South Florida. I feel honored and blessed to be given the opportunity to help people suffering from the loss of their spirit. Some twenty four plus years ago I found myself in their shoes. I had hit rock bottom and was spiritless, hopeless and defeated. If you have ever found yourself in that position you know how empty you feel.

I had built up walls of defense that were so thick that a direct hit by a Scud missile could not penetrate my shell. There were people in my path that very gently and lovingly, piece by piece, helped me find my spirit and commence tearing down my walls. Today my spirit is soaring and I am giving back to the people I see what was so freely given to me by others. I feel so alive today in helping these people see that our spirituality is wherever we are at the moment we are there. It is forever changing and emerging. I had to learn that over many years I had built barriers that prevented me from not only feeling my spirit, but knowing that I even had one. I guess you say that my spirit was very dark and angry.

Today, my joy is in working with others both publicly and privately in doing Spiritual Counseling as a Rabbi in Recovery. I love helping people heal their wounded souls and spirits and find new joy and happiness within themselves.

My prayer for you today is that you see your barriers inside you, tear them down and know a new freedom and happiness within.
