What Kind of Day Will You Have?

“It’s so hard when I have to, and so easy when I want to.” –  Annie Gottlier

I have scoured the net to find more information about Annie Gottlier and it seems that she is a soaring spirit of no particular fame or note to the public, but is wonderful within herself.

As a Rabbi in Recovery and Spiritual Counselor, I help my clients and congregants realize that the kind of day they are going to have is up to them and the attitude they bring to the task.

What kind of day will you have is a daily question we all face. I know that when I awaken to the new day and inhale the first breath of the new day God has blessed me with, I affirm God, affirm God’s love for me, give thanks for another day and tell myself that I am already having a great new day and it can only get better.

Although I am powerless over people, places and things, I am absolutely in control of my attitude about all three. When I can remember that I always have a choice, I no longer have to do anything, but rather, want to, because I have chosen to. What a difference wanting to makes over having to.

My prayer for you today is that you remember that you always have a choice and “want to” rather than “have to.”
